The Talent:
The realities of the economy, demography and education in East Africa are such that,
there are many talented young people, even with a university education, whom the economy is unable to absorb.
We have been training some young people in the rural area of Buhugu in Uganda,
and have experimented with income generation using IT for over a year. More about it at
buhugu.org
.
The Platform:
Most of our web development is done on the Yola
platform. The good people at Yola have built a user friendly CMS
(Content Management System) platform on which it is possible to build
websites with minimal technical knowledge.
As the button at the bottom of our pages indicate, it is free to use, and free to host.
In fact, if you know a thing or two about websites, you can build one yourself for free!
The Technology:
Companies such as Amazon, have made cheap computing power available for anyone to use. Yola is built on top of Amazon's EC2 web services platform.
We've
all heard bout the mobile phone revolution around the world. The
telecom companies have brought connectivity, even to the rural areas in
countries like Uganda.
Stir it Up
So,
put all of these ingredients together and you have the possibility, for
the first time it seems, that a talented young person in a village in
Africa, can learn a thing or two about building websites, and then
build one for you for for a price you can afford.
